Tequila sunrise is one of the most popular tequila-based cocktails that is made with only three ingredients. The color combination of this drink looks like the color during sunrises. That is why it is called the sunrise cocktail.
The original sunrise recipe was created in the year 1930. At that time it was made with tequila, creme de cassis, lime juice, and soda water. It is called the classical version. This drink tastes like some fruit-based mocktails.
The modern version of this drink was created in 1970 in Sausalito, California north of San Francisco. The modern version of this cocktail is made with tequila, orange juice, and grenadine.
The tequila sunset drink also looks like this drink but don’t mix it with that. Because tequila sunset is made with five ingredients where tequila sunrise recipe is made with only three ingredients.

For making this drink we need only three ingredients. These are
Tequila: Tequila is the main ingredient of this recipe. Silver Tequila is best for making this cocktail. But you can be used reposado tequila replaces silver tequila.
Orange juice: Orange juice is another main ingredient of this drink. It balances the taste of the drink. Freshly squeezed orange juice is better but can use any branded orange juice.
Grenadine: Grenadine is added to this drink to create the sunrise effect. It is also added for sweetness and balances the sour taste of orange juice.

Tequila Sunrise Recipe
Equipment
- High ball glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz Tequila
- 4 oz Orange juice
- ¼ oz Grenadine syrup
- Orange slice for garnishing
- Cherry for garnishing
Instructions
- Fill a tall glass with some ice cubes. Add 2 oz silver tequila and 4 oz fresh orange juice.
- Now add the grenadine syrup near the edge of the glass. As the density of the grenadine syrup is very high so it will sink to the bottom of the glass and slowly rise up and make the sunrise effect.
